SPECIAL
NEEDS

At Chiselhurst we value each child as an individual
and want them to have the best possible opportunity
to enjoy their childhood together with the best opportunity
to develop to their full potential. Parents can assist
their child make a smooth transition from home to
Chiselhurst by providing their teacher with as much
information as possible. It is helpful for teachers
to get to know you and your child prior to the first
day of attendance so your child settles readily into
the new environment.
If your child requires particular kinds
of support (i.e. equipment, one on one support) it
can take time to put these things in place. Chiselhurst
is able to make application for funding should your
child require a special needs assistant. This application
must be lodged very early in term one and must be
supported by specialist reports.
Our Centre recognises the individuality
of each child and welcomes all families regardless
of the abilities/disabilities of the child. Chiselhurst
has been modified to accommodate special needs’ children
who attend the Centre.
Our staff recognise the value and need
for early intervention and are familiar with available
community resources.
Staff are aware of identified/diagnosed
special needs of individual children and make arrangements
to follow through consistently on specific intervention
plans.
